Project Partners
The Michael-Otto-Institute at NABU (NABU/MOIN) holds the project coordination. The staff members, in addition to organization and administration, also undertake fieldwork, data processing and analysis, public relations, and develop the nationwide action plan for the protection of the Bewick’s Swan.
The Association of German Avifaunists (DDA, Dachverband Deutscher Avifaunisten) is responsible for expanding the nationwide monitoring program and creating the online counting area exchange. Other tasks in the project include establishing and maintaining the database, organizing nationwide synchronous counts, and assisting in the creation of the nationwide action plan.
The Ornithological Working Groups (OAG, Ornithologische Arbeitsgemeinschaften) of the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are involved in conducting the respective statewide synchronous counts by volunteer bird counters. The following are involved:

- Lower Saxony Ornithological Association e.V. (NOV)
- Ornithological Working Group for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania e.V. (OAMV)
The Schleswig-Holstein Nature Conservation (Stiftung Naturschutz Schleswig-Holstein) Foundation has created a new roosting water for Bewick’s Swans in the Dithmarschen district (Schleswig-Holstein).
The Emsland District Nature Conservation Foundation (Naturschutzstiftung des Landkreis Emsland) is partially involved in project financing and provides the areas for the newly created roosting water in Emsland (Lower Saxony).
KUNO e.V. (“Kulturlandschaft nachhaltig organisieren”/ Organizing Cultural Landscape Sustainably) as our ideological partner is involved in public relations, particularly as co-organizer of the annual Bewick’s Swan Days.
The Wildfowl and Wetland Trust (WWT) Slimbridge, UK, which also conducts research on Bewick’s Swans, is connected with us as another ideological partner and exchanges methods and results with us.
